The holiday season this year hasn’t exactly been a month of cheer, especially for us women. But we do have a word of praise for the advertising industry for rounding off the year on a positive note. Titan has recently come out with an interesting new TV campaign for its Raga watches that will surely get a big, wide grin from the feminist inside all of us.
Featuring ‘The Lunchbox’ actress Nimrat Kaur, the new ad is all about women of today, self love, keeping a relationship with oneself (Khud Se Naya Rishta– their tagline).
When Kaur runs into an ex-boyfriend at the airport while waiting for her flight, he passes a comment on her breaking up with him. He also makes a dig at how she is still single because she puts her career above relationships, adding that perhaps that is the reason they broke up. When Kaur points out that he could have quit his job instead of her, to save their relationship, he is offended and retorts, “But I’m a man!’
Amused, Kaur looks down at her Raga watch and tells him that he is still the same man that she had left years ago, thereby shaming him. A voiceover by Kaur plays – Khud Se Naya Rishta‘ ( a new relationship with oneself).
A beautifully crafted ad by Ogilvy & Mather, this TVC is a rousing thousand ‘Hail Marys’ to all those classy, independent women out there who are not apologetic about their career, their position and the way they want to lead their life. More importantly, it delivers a hard kick in the pants to those men who believe they have the right to dictate our lives, merely because they are…well…men.
This has now become one of our favourite ads for the year, right next to the Raymond’s ad last year on widow remarriage. Good job Titan!
