Jowar flour is rich in calcium and iron, which makes it a healthy choice for making snack-time munchies. The onion and sesame seeds in the recipe help add flavour to the otherwise bland flour and baking them will cut down your oil intake. With just 8 calories in a single puri you can enjoy guilt-free munchies when hunger strikes. These puris make a great snack for people suffering from diabetes who cannot stay hungry and have to keep their diet in check at all times.
Ingredients:
½ cup jowar (white millet) flour
¼ cup onions, finely-chopped
2 tsp black sesame seeds
Salt to taste
¾ tsp oil for greasing
Jowar (white millet flour) for rolling
Method:
1. Combine all the ingredients and knead into a firm dough using enough water.
2. Divide the dough into 30 equal portions.
3. Grease your palms using ¼ tsp of oil, roll each portion of the dough in between your palms into a 38 mm. (1½”) diameter circle, using very little jowar flour for rolling.
4. Grease a baking tray using the remaining ¼ tsp of oil, place the puris evenly over it and prick all over the puris using a fork.
5. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 20 minutes or till the puris are golden brown and crisp, turning them around once after 10 minutes.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to make one more batch of 15 puris.
7. Cool and store in an air-tight container. These will stay fresh for three to four days.
