Either you are working in an office or are most likely to work in one soon. So we just had to warn you. Your office is trying to kill you. Slowly and steadily the hands of death are going to grip your throat and take the life out of you. Wondering why are we being so dramatic? Have a looksie at these five ways your office is plotting your death.

Sick Office: There was a time many, many years ago when offices had open windows to let the fresh air in. But ventilation is now a thing of the past. With centrally air-conditioned offices, the stale air you keep breathing is often worse that the outdoors. So make sure to take a breather (literally!) from work every couple of hours. A short walk outside post lunch will help you digest your meal and think clearly too.

Gadget Pollution: Have you ever noticed the smell that comes from the photocopier? That comes from ozone emissions, inhaling which can lead to chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath amongst other things. So make sure to limit your time at the xerox machine.

Light Attack: Have you ever walked into your office and suddenly everything seemed too bright? It’s what is called over-illumination. It happens when you are exposed to harsh artificial light, which is brighter than normal light. If your job requires you to sit in front of a computer all day, then chances are you don’t need this kind of sun-equivalent light at all. It’s time you quit your job or be prepared to go blind. Just kidding. Enter your office with your shades on and take them off once your eyes are slightly accustomed to the lights. Also, resting your eyes for a couple of minutes every hour helps prevent the bright lights from harming your eyes.

Sitting Syndrome: Most jobs these days include sitting for long hours at a stretch. Do you know sitting for long hours reduces your life expectancy? It can also lead to cancer, higher risk of heart disease, back pain and headaches. Walk around every few hours, take the stairs or simply get off your seat and stretch to reduce the risk.

Stress Levels: There is not a single occupation that doesn’t involve certain levels of stress. Even the easiest job in the world can’t be easy breezy all the time. Well, stress will find you and kill you. So start with stress-relieving exercises before your office finds a way to your heart and health.
