For Malaika Arora, the whole world came crashing down when she decided to part ways with Arbaaz Khan. Ending a 19-year-long marriage was not easy for her. But then, she’s always set the right example when it comes to being a single mother.

In a recent interview, Malaika opened up about being a single mother to son Arhaan after her divorce, and how she knew that to be a single mother, she had to be a single ‘working’ mother.

She told Pinkvilla.com, “When I took that decision and that step to be a single mother… At that point, you always feel that the whole world is crashing on your head and how are you going to manage, I think that’s a very normal human reaction. But having said that I also knew that it was something that I needed to take on.”

Given her responsibilities towards Arhaan as a single mother, it was a learning phase for the actress. She added, “I have to be that right example, I have to be able to steer him in the right direction and at the same time make his own mistakes. So yes, I did feel scared, vulnerable, frightened, all of those emotions but I also felt like I had to take one day at a time. I couldn’t take giant leaps because that was just not possible. I had to see how every day would unfold for me.”

Malaika is a self-made woman

Since she doesn’t come from a film or business family, she had to put in extra effort and work harder to be able to take care of herself and her son. Malaika recalled, “At that point, the only thing I was thinking about is, if I am a single mother, I need to be a working single mother. For me that was more important, I need to do this so that I am able to not just take care of my son, take care of myself. If I can’t take care of myself, I won’t be able to take care of him, so for me, that was more important.”

“At the end of the day, everything I do, everything I am is self-made, self-taught. I strive every single day like you, like millions of other women out there,” she concluded.
