Deepika Padukone’s recent release Gehraiyaan has raised some legit aspects of modern day relationships and infidelity. If you have watched the film, chances are that your mind is clouded with thoughts like — Is cheating okay? Is it a big deal? Under what circumstances is it justified? Is emotional cheating worse than physical cheating?
Is cheating a big deal? Deepika’s take

In an interview with We Are Yuvaa, the Gehraiyaan actor was asked, “Is cheating even a big deal anymore?” To which Deepika said, “It’s something that I personally don’t endorse. But having said that, I don’t think I am anyone to judge someone else’s relationship, whether it has happened or not happened, or whether they are okay with it or not okay with it. Relationships are truly based on connections and when you have lost that connection in itself, then there is no relationship.”

Adding further on how emotional infidelity is worse, she said, “Whereas, sometimes maybe physical attraction is still sort of a passing thing. I think as long as you have respect for the other person, I think that’s really important. I mean, monogamy, physical attraction, sure, it’s one thing but I would be far more disappointed if there was emotional infidelity. Not to say that physical infidelity is okay but emotional infidelity is far more hurtful than anything else.”

Earlier in 2010, during an interview with Verve magazine, Deepika had shared that her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor cheated on her and that she caught him red-handed.
She said, “For me, sex is not just about physicality; there are emotions involved. I have never cheated or strayed when I’m in a relationship. If I’m going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It’s better to be single and have fun. But not everyone thinks like that. Maybe that’s why I’ve been hurt in the past. The first time he cheated on me, I thought there was something wrong with the relationship, or me. But when someone makes a habit of it, you know the problem lies with him.”
Talking about how she had caught her ex-boyfriend red-handed, she said, “Yet, I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded, despite the fact that everyone around me said he was still straying. I guess I really wanted to believe in him. Then I actually caught him red-handed. It took me a while to get out. But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed.”
Deepika is one of those rare actors who has always been vocal and transparent about her emotions and yet again she makes for a strong point about infidelity in relationships.
