Dating is never easy, and the life of a hapless romantic is fraught with many challenges. Dating in India is even harder—you have to combat stupid partners, a rigid society and a shallow dating pool. Plus, it comes with its own set of failures.

1. She Took Me To A Temple

“First date. Thought we were going for food, but my date took me straight to the temple instead. While that’s okay sometimes, I think a first date in a temple in summer is too much. Thanks, but no thanks.”

“I once went out on a date with a guy who blew his nose on a cloth napkin at the restaurant and then used the same napkin, same part of the napkin even, to wipe his mouth after eating! I couldn’t eat after that. Paid for my half of dinner and left. There was no second date.”
3. She Tried To Pimp Me Off

“I matched with a girl on a dating app and we hit it off. We started talking about life and all, but suddenly she asks me if I am a male escort. She said if I was, she had a client for me from Dubai and would pay ‘handsomely.’ I blocked her immediately.”
4. He Was Annoyed That I Was Tall

“He was vocally irritated that I wore heels because it made him less taller than me. Note, he was still taller than me by a few inches, but just less taller, and that annoyed him. Later that evening he tried to grab my ass. Worst date ever.”

“On my first date with this girl, she brought her younger sister along and made me meet her parents. Yeah, I don’t even know the girl yet and her parents are asking me what I like about her. At the end of the date she sneakily asked about my marriage plans, and I ran from there.”

“I went on a first date where the dude took my phone and wouldn’t give it back, and then bit me when I tried to take it. Left a bruise for a few weeks. It was definitely not a good date.”
7. She Showed Up With Her Ex

“Met this really nice girl online and asked her on a first date at a movie theater. She asks me if she can bring her best friend with her. I said yes, and didn’t think about it until a man showed up to our date! I was like, ‘okay, he’s her best friend. That’s fine,’ until they reveal that he’s her ex and now they’re friends. They were really nice people and I think I had a good time, but that was not a date I’d like to go on again. She was obviously in love with him.”
8. He Didn’t Let me Talk

“He seemed nice, but never stopped talking. After interrupting me for the third or fourth time, I finally asked him, ‘do you want to hear anything I have to say?’ He apologizes profusely, says ‘you’re right, I’m so sorry!’ and pulls out a pad of paper and a pen. He then jots notes as I’m telling him about myself and whatnot. I finally ask him what he’s doing and he says ‘oh, I’m writing down things I want to tell you when it’s my turn to talk again.’ It wasn’t funny when it was happening but in hindsight that’s hilarious.”
