Rahul Roy shot to fame with his debut film Aashiqui (1990) and became one of the most popular romantic heroes in the 90s. At the moment, Roy is recovering from a brain stroke. In an interview, he advised young actors to work hard but not at the cost of their well-being.

According to the Hindustan Times, Roy’s comments came after actor Sidharth Shukla’s death. Roy said, “I had a brain stroke, so I wouldn’t be able to answer this because I was totally under observation and heavy medicines. But now, when I look back at it, it makes me realise many things. I have learnt through this incident, that we, as actors, must take risks, but not at the cost of our own lives. It is dangerous to just trust random, unripe professionals who have no idea of the process of making films and may do hazardous things to achieve their goals.”

Roy also added, “I would like to especially say this to actors of this generation and to aspiring actors who are looking forward to entering this industry to be an actor. Don’t let your work go to your head and don’t let anybody take advantage of you and put you on your deathbed. This is the scariest thing that can happen to anybody. You must only trust the right professionals.”

Roy suffered a brain stroke while shooting for a film. A few months ago, Roy took to Instagram to share that he had been using music therapy to recover. He wrote, “I hope you all are loving my recovery videos which I am sharing with you. Brain stroke recovery takes a lot of effort and lot many things to take care. My speech got affected and my main work is towards speaking properly again. This is Music Therapy, a method in speech therapy wherein my sister priyankaroy_pia works on opening and strengthening my vocal cords which would take time. It takes a lot of time and effort. Soon you would see me talk to you all… Love you all. (sic).”

Although Roy’s message was for young actors, we can all follow his advice to maintain a healthy work-life balance and prevent burn-out. It’s especially important to safeguard our health in a pandemic that’s still quite alive and kicking.
