I Made My Boyfriend Try Several TikTok Challenges And Here's How It Went

You know how you’re scrolling through the reels section on Instagram and you see all of these cute couples doing fun challenges? Well, no matter how cute they look, anytime you ask your own boyfriend to do them, they might just throw the biggest tantrum known to mankind. Like hello, where did this giant baby come from that I did not ask for?

Watching TikToks together

Now that TT is officially banned in India and Instagram made a copycat feature of it IRL, you can pretty much substitute one app for the other. Since it’s a part of IG, it was easier for my boyfriend and I to scroll through thousands and thousands of challenges, confessions, pranks etc. (We were lowkey SUPER bored, can you tell?)

While he patiently watched all of them, which I attributed to genuine interest and well-made content, I decided to ask him whether he would be interested in recreating some of them for the ’gram. I was met with a lot of sarcastic laughter, followed by a few blank stares. All of this made me question why a lot of my heterosexual male friends including my boyfriend, hated getting clicked or videographed? Just the slightest bit of emotion that needs to be enacted seems like such a giant burden. Contrastingly, when I asked my girlfriends the same question, 3 of them were immediately down for the shoot, 2 volunteered to help me purchase a ring light, one of them even agreed to play the part of the man if my boyfriend declined.

Recreating reel content

As I attempted, in vain, to recreate the same cute reel content I had seen, I realized my boyfriend was neither interested nor making my video look fun. Instead, I was dealing with ‘how long will this take?’ or ‘I cannot understand the step you’re trying to do’. Finally, after what felt like a million attempts at doing choreographed dances and pranks on each other, I realized the sweet spot was making him answer relationship questions.

A quick search on Google and you will find more than a 100 questions – mostly based on the ‘who is most likely to’ format – that he was willing to answer. It’s actually a lot of fun because the questions are not only super informative, it makes you say a lot of things couples kinda leave for later like the mushy things you type on your chat but don’t say in person or revisit a memory you thought you had forgotten.

At the end of the day, although the videos were a fail, I managed to have a pretty kickass time doing mindless things with my boyfriend. Next time you and your partner are looking for a fun way to kill some time, give this a shot!
