Anushka & Virat’s measured eating habits

Earlier today, Anushka took to Instagram to share a sneak peek into how rigid their diet plan is by sharing Virat’s “measured eating” habits. The Bulbul producer shared a video to her IG story where you can see Virat measuring the accurate weight of a bowl of poha on a digital weighing scale. You’ll see that the cricketer is so precise with his nutrition regime that he removes small spoons of poha from the bowl to eat an exact 100 gms.

What is measured eating?

Measured eating is a diet where you control your portion size to avoid overeating or unwanted weight gain. It is an effective way to control how much you consume in each of your meals in a day. We agree it can be quite a task to measure what we eat on a daily basis so this rigorous eating habit is mostly common for sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts.

How to measure portions at home

We can control our portions without a weighing scale at home. Here’s how:

1. Replace large utensils with smaller ones

We may not notice it but when our utensils are larger, we tend to eat bigger portions. For example, shifting to smaller plates, bowls, and spoons we’ll be able to consume lesser amounts of food.

2. Count your servings

If you’ve just started with portion-control diets, you may not know how much is too much. In that case, keep a track of how many servings of food you help yourself to, i.e., one serving of rice, two servings of vegetables, etc.

3. Don’t eat straight out of containers

Eating straight out of the utensil or container is the worst you can do to your diet. When we eat straight out of jars, we fail to keep a track of how much we’ve consumed and how quickly.

4. Calculate intake through calorie count

You can also cut down on your regular portion sizes by counting the calories in each of the food items you consume. For example, one serving of steamed rice will vary between 150-250kcal and a bowl of yellow homemade dal has 300kcals max.

But remember, diet in moderation. It is important to not deprive ourselves of the right amount of food our bodies need to remain healthy. Our body’s dietary needs can vary depending on factors like BMI, existing height and weight, medical conditions, and age; so it’s best to consult a dietician before making significant changes to what we eat.
