There was a time when singer Kanika Kapoor was known for her hit single “baby doll main sone di”. The now infamous singer is better known as the celebrity who carelessly moved around the country carrying the deadly Coronavirus, and throwing tantrums while undergoing treatment.

The singer is now free from the disease and discharged from the hospital. She grabbed headlines last month by becoming the first Bollywood celebrity to test positive for Coronavirus.

Now finally recovered, the singer is definitely looking to do her bit, while regaining her reputation once again. For the uninitiated, Kanika’s reputation wasn’t maligned for catching the virus, it was due to her failing to self-quarantine after returning from London, and on top of that attending two parties in Lucknow that made her an enemy in the eyes of the public. The cherry on the cake was the news that the parties she attended were populated by top politicians and bureaucrats and all of them were later tested for Corona because of her.

Kanika finally took to her social media to address the allegations against her, some of which used pretty harsh language calling her “selfish”, “uneducated” and “reckless”.

Clarifying the allegations made against her

Kanika in her statement said that all the people she came in contact with spanning two countries, the United Kingdom and India, had tested negative and that she had duly followed the process. She also pointed out the inaccuracy in the facts painting her as an irresponsible citizen, finally clearing the air from her end. She also posted a picture of herself enjoying relaxed chai time at home.

The famed singer still has to report to the UP police on April 30th, after a notice was served to her.

Kanika was hospitalized for over a fortnight at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

In a confirmed report, Kanika has approached the King George’s Medical University (KGMU), offering to donate her plasma for the treatment of other Covid-19 patients. The singer had called up the head of the transfusion medicine department, Professor Tulika Chandra, and volunteered to help.

Becoming a plasma donor is not an easy task and her samples would have to pass several tests to qualify to become one. These include that her hemoglobin level should be above 12.5, weight should be more than 50 kg and the patient should not have diabetes, cardiovascular issues, malaria, syphilis, and other such ailments.

Kanika’s sample could be taken anytime this week and if found to be eligible, she will be donating her plasma as soon as possible.

Tablighi Jamaat men also step up to the occasion

Not just Kanika, but several Tablighi Jamaat men who were detected with Corona too have shown the will to donate their blood plasma. Around 300 Tablighis, responding to an appeal by their leader Maulana Saad, volunteered to save the lives of others battling the infection. This move comes after many of them recovered from the infection and having successfully completed their quarantine period.

A case of successful plasma fusion acts as a ray of hope

Meanwhile, the KGMU on Sunday night made the first plasma transfusion in a 58-year-old patient from Orai, a government doctor, whose condition was critical. The doctors now say that the patient is responding well to the transfusion.

The university has received three plasma donations from fully recovered Covid-19 patients, two from doctors, and one from a man from Lakhimpur.
