Divorces can get messy, not just for the couple involved but for everyone associated with them. In cases where the couple has children, the trauma of the parents’ separation can leave a dent on their childhood and future relationships.
A 10-year-old’s perspective on her parents’ divorce is winning the internet
However, a girl proved that kids can be emotionally mature and intelligent and channel their sentiments towards creative outlets.
The girl, at the age of 10, made an ametuer film trailer channeling her sadness and creativity stemming from her parents’ ongoing divorce battle into a 46-second-long iMovie. Now 17 years old (according to her Twitter account @filmtrashed), Victoria Valle Remond rediscovered her first movie trailer she made seven years ago and posted it on Twitter.
She captioned the post with shouty capitals, “WHEN I WAS 10 I MADE AN IMOVIE TRAILER FOR MY PARENTS DIVORCE AND I JUST FOUND IT???”
While some call it “hilarious”, others call it “ Oscar material”
The trailer titled, A Shattered Relationship, has been called “hilarious” by some because of the not-so-original reviews from made-up organisations like the National Bureau of Divorce and the Broken Family Film Festival. However, what most people missed in this film is the the use of images.
The video, which is an amalgamation of family photos, shows the family in happier times; images of the happy couple together, with their kids, of them kissing, on vacations and more. Ten-year-old Remond juxtaposed these happy images with stock images of broken marriage and silhouettes of a couple fighting, pull quotes, and added a moving background score and end credits!
Netizens couldn’t help but appreciate her maturity and talent at such a young age and compared her work to the Oscar-nominated movie Marriage Story starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson–alongside other compliments.

Some people even questioned the legitimacy of the video saying that it is not possible for a 10-year-old to ace such a basic edit. But Remond wasn’t having any of it. She pointed out how she’s a film major because of her childhood passion.
At the time of writing this, the tweet had more than 5.8 million views, and more than 541K likes and 87.9K retweets.
In case you’re wondering where the story heads from there, the girl did end up showing the trailer to her mother back then, and guess what? The parents still went ahead with the divorce, because human relationships are complex like that and emotions cannot be simplified with words.
