It’s a vulnerable moment. You know the person with you is on the verge of confessing their feelings but you don’t know if you have them yet–don’t worry, be awkward instead! While we can all agree that we’ve been there at some point, no one can say they were a 100% prepared for it. Which definitely means that when the first ‘’I love you’’ is said, there’s fumbling, stuttering and a lot of weirdness.

These 3 magical words can come at any given point–whether it’s with a childhood best friend or someone you just met on a date..which makes the whole reaction super unpredictable. Of course, if you’re looking for them to confess their love for you, it’s great..but if you were genuinely pushed out of the dark with this statement, here are a few ways NOT to respond. Everyone’s been advising ya’ll on how to do it right, this one’s for all the people who have a natural knack for making things uncomfortable.

Make sure this isn’t how you react in astonishment because the other person is probably going to hate you after…And you don’t want that. Have you ever reacted like this? Let us know in the comments below!

1. Saying ‘’thank you’’

Aww man, you’re as cold-hearted as the Antarctic and even that’s melting more than you!

2. Beginning to cry and talking about the last time this happened

How to make things awkward 101

3. Saying  ‘’who doesn’t? ‘’

Self involved much?

4. Vomit on their face

We were thinking in the context of a party...AND Mean Girls BUT it could happen!

5. Pretending to not hear them AT ALL

Worst thing you can do is just fake the fact that you have no idea what just happened.

6. Leave the room

Being dramatic might’ve gotten you this far but…

7. Give them a good hand-shake

This gesture will make any person rethink their whole lives!

8. Blocking them

This is for the time they hit you with an ‘’I love you’’ on text or social media!

9. Saying, ‘’I know’’

Even if you do, it’s very impolite to say it out loud to the person.

10. Can we talk about this later?

Saying something along these lines to deal with the situation later is like saying, ‘’hey, your emotional vulnerability is the last thing that’s important to me’’ and that’s no way what you want to say. Even if you actually do!
