There is no greater joy than the union of two souls in love. A couple in their sixties living in an old age home in Kerala embraced love and decided to give it a name. This by far has to be the cutest love story of 2019, where a government-run old age home in Ramavarmapuram in Thrissur district of Kerala, for the first time arranged the wedding ceremony of two of their residents.

The love story of Kochaniyan Menon and Lakshmi Ammal

Kochaniyan Menon, the 67-year-old groom, and PV Lakshmi Ammal, the 66-year-old bride, are no strangers. Before making a decision to tie the knot last month, the two had known each other for over 30 years. Menon was Ammal’s late husband Krisha Iyer’s assistant in his catering business in Thrissur.

Speaking to The News Minute Lakshmi Ammal narrated, “My husband passed away 21 years ago. But he asked Kochaniyan to take care of me after he passed. He was with me then. After he passed away, I lived alone in my house for some years. Kochaniyan used to come home if I required some help. Later, I sold my house and shifted to a relative’s house, where I lived for many years. Kochaniyan used to check on me often.”

However, Kochaniyan went somewhere a few years ago and did not return. That is when, two years ago, Lakshmi Ammal moved to this old age home and as luck would have it two months ago, she met Kochaniyan, once again, at the same old age home. Kochaniyan had been living with his children until a few years ago. He then moved to an old age home in Wayanad, from where he was transferred to the Thrissur home two months ago.

They aren’t sure if it is ‘love’ or just their compatibility that brought them closer

Although the couple is now united in holy matrimony, they aren’t sure if they were in love earlier or not. But one thing that they are sure of is that they did like each other a lot even then. “I was surprised to see him. I was feeling lonely all these years. When I met him here, I was overjoyed. He never left me alone. He loves me. That’s why we decided to lead the rest of our lives as husband and wife,” Ammal told The News Minute.

After going through all authorities and permissions as the couple chose to live at the old age home even after marriage, the authorities arranged for a mandapam (marriage ceremony), sadhya (marriage feast) and a maniyara (bedroom for the couple) for them.

A happily ever after for Kochaniyan Menon and Lakshmi Ammal

Lakshmi Ammal is taking her union with her now husband as a blessing. She had earlier said that, “We are not sure how long we can stay together as we are old. But we will be happy and I feel somebody is always there next to me.”
