You might wonder what does self-care have to do with a relationship. How would a yoga session, a jog in the park, cycling on a peaceful day or stress-relieving massage help improve your bond? The answer lies in partaking in self-care activities with your partner.

Celebrities are classic examples of self-care done in two’s

If you do anything which involves prioritising health, fitness or mental peace with your partner, you are bound to respect each other more. Look at celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas cycling on a hot summer day together. Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput hitting the gym together. Milind Soman and wife Ankita running marathons together. These are all examples of couples coming together by just sharing self-care routines.

Self-care not just beneficial for you, it is positive for people around you as well

The math here is simple–any kind of self-care deed will be good for your relationship because it is good for you. It evokes positivity in you which has a ripple effect in your life and relationships. Much like when you’re feeling low you push people away and unknowingly behave rudely. So, doing activities with your partner which doesn’t involve a technological device brings your and your partner’s focus to the present.

You don’t necessarily have to start running in the park or sweating it out in the gym. You can choose to play a round of badminton or tennis, go for a swim, or chose to have a bubble bath at home. You might think that self-care is for self and needs to be a solo activity– true! You can do things for yourself, all by yourself. But consciously choosing to do certain things with your partner increases time spent together, moments of positivity shared, and builds a bond of friendship.

Ditching the phone is a major facilitator of the quality time spent together

Ditch the phone, step out, and be present. This will help the two of you unwind from work and share a laugh. It is difficult to just get up and be like “Hey love, can you please keep the phone away?” It works better when the two of you have something to look forward to where you know your work thoughts, laptops, television, and phones won’t be involved. Who doesn’t want to increase endorphins AKA happy hormones like that!

Doing laundry, utensils, and sex also counts!

For your information, if there is laundry piling up or just utensils, doing it together also means spending time together doing an activity. Even something as obvious as sex counts in this case. After all, spending time focusing on your life as a couple, and figuring what you like to do in the process is ultimately going to help you take good care of yourself and in turn your relationship.
