When it comes to actresses, it’s easy to get jealous of their jet set life, they never seem to have a bad hair day or pimples, and wear some of the best couture. However, it comes with a price, most often women have to face much hate and scrutiny compared to their male counterparts. Tara Sutaria, last year’s breakout star from Student of The Year 2, revealed she’s been body shamed multiple times.

In a new interview with a leading entertainment portal, Tara revealed that all the body shaming would affect her mental health. Opening up, she said, “People do say hurtful things every now and then. Some people called me anorexic when I did SOTY 2. A little while later, I put on 2-3 kilos and they were like she’s put on weight. That’s something I have come to terms with it. It used to bother me a lot in the beginning.”

She added, “When you perform and you are young, a lot of people don’t take that very kindly. They want to criticise you in a certain way which is very detrimental for your growth. I have been performing since I was 3-4 [years old] so that’s quite a few years of being a professional. In that way, some occasions have been annoying where people have said things like, ‘Why did she choose to do this?’ But I met Karan [Johar] and then SOTY 2 happened and my outlook changed.”

Tara’s SOTY 2 co-star Ananya Panday, who was also the subject of much hate over her admission to a US college, launched an initiative called So Positive on Social Media Day to combat cyberbullying. We’re glad that the younger stars aren’t one to sweep things under the rug, but rather opening up to the world, that they too get affected by mean comments.

Recently, Tara stepped out with Aadar Jain, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s cousin at a Diwali party which had people wondering if the two were a couple. Tara responded to the link up in an interview with Mumbai Mirror saying, “It’s important to say this, we enjoy going out and spending time together. Aadar is special to me and both of us are foodies, so we are going to be spotted at restaurants. We met for the first time last Diwali and have a lot of mutual friends.”

Guess, that’s better than “we’re just good friends”, right?
