Can Someone Please Talk About Sonakshi Sinha Losing ALL That Weight?

Before we get attacked in the comments section, we’d like to clarify a few things: Sonakshi Sinha is a beautiful woman in a sexist industry who chose a health regime on her own terms. The glow on her face is a testament to the fact that exercising and eating right are key to improving your lifestyle. She’s honestly inspired us in ways we could not have fathomed–not just in terms of getting to her fittest best, but also not giving a damn about it had to be done to fit in. Kudos to you, girl! 

Before Bollywood…  

The Dabbang actress weighed around 90 kgs. We’ve all seen the transformation photos splashed across the Internet for this one. People called her out for not fitting into the Bollywood standard of 36-24-36. Sona did not immediately jump on the workout bandwagon and for that we are thankful. Why? Because it shows that she took her time to really figure out what worked for her body type instead of hurriedly shedding 50 out of those 90 kgs. 

Sometimes Sona credits Salman Bhai to have inspired her to go on this journey, sometimes we think it might have been organic. The changes have been gradual, not all at once for a single film. Sonakshi really took her time and the effort shows. 

Her journey within Bollywood

In case you didn’t notice, at the time Sonakshi was taking her first few steps into the industry, she wasn’t being styled in anything even slightly sexy. We’d have suggested Manish Malhotra lehengas or Philosophy slip dresses. Those days it was mostly silhouettes that worked to hide problem areas for all body types–an overload of peplum and anti-fit styling mixed into one. Cut-outs, crop tops, and cholis were mostly avoided.

Looking at her now… 

Sonakshi can be called the desi Khloe Kardashian! Much like the social media mogul, Sonakshi’s body type has always been bigger in structure than most super-skinny models and actresses out there. When your frame is naturally a certain way, it is best to work with it to see what suits you best. That’s exactly what Sonakshi did. She worked out and worked out and then worked out some more–not to keep losing excess weight because there wasn’t any left, but to tone her muscles and gain an athletic build.

What we got at the end of this nearly three-year journey is a much more confident version of the Sinha girl. She’s still running on the treadmill but she’s defining goals her way. She looks more confident–at least on her Instagram. Her styling has drastically changed: more outfits with shorter hemlines and brighter colours. Isn’t that the kind of confidence you want to follow on social media? 

What did she do?

This is one discussion that is well-documented on the Internet. Sonakshi’s diet and workout plans have inspired many girls to work towards the body they’ve always wanted, not the body they’re told to have. The entire routine is a mix of clean eating and regular exercise. 

Here are a few of the dietary rules she follows:

Early morning: warm water with honey and lime juice

Breakfast: cereal and low-fat milk + 1 whole wheat toast

Lunch: 1 cup mixed vegetable curry with 2 chapatis and salad 

Evening Snacks: 1 cup green tea or a bowl of fruit

Dinner: ½ cup dal, mixed vegetable curry, and a piece of chicken breast or grilled fish 

This routine not only looks after your bowel movements but also ensures you’re not starving yourself to look a certain way. 

In terms of workouts, Sonakshi usually mixes it up with cardio, weight, and functional training, hot yoga, spinning, and tennis or swimming. The different activities not only make exercising a lot more fun, they also introduce a change in an otherwise boring routine. All in all, we’re super inspired and proud of homegirl here. She is slaying her new body weight like how you should–on your own effing terms!
