We get it! You are madly in love with your partner and feel like sharing everything with him, because you believe in being transparent and honest. There’s no denying that this is a good thing. But here’s the deal: you don’t need to/have to share everything with him! From ‘Meri baby ne khana khaya’ to ‘You know what happened with my friend today?’, there are certain things your partner doesn’t need to know about AT ALL! Here are a few things you shouldn’t talk to your partner about.

1. Babu tumne khana khaya?

Let’s start with the most common thing. If you’re someone who induldges in such banter, we suggest that you let your partner be. Whether your babu or shona has eaten or not, is perhaps the most insignificant thing you need to know or tell your partner on a regular basis. Irrespective of you asking or not, your babu WILL EAT and survive!

2. You know what happened with my friend today…

This is something most of us do, but ideally, shouldn’t. Your friend trusted you with her story and life incidents, not for you to discuss it with your partner. In the process of doing that, you put your loyalty to your friend at stake. If you are sharing her story with him to come up with a genuine solution for her problem, it’s still understandable; but making it general chit chat is a different issue altogether.

3. My ex got married!

The fact that you’re still keeping a track of your ex, his whereabouts, and life events says a lot about your interests. If you keep telling your partner about what your ex is up to, it might backfire. How? Your partner might think you are still not over your past relationship, which might not be the case. This will only create a rift between you and your partner. Of all the people in the world, your current partner doesn’t really need to know what your ex is doing. It’s completely inconsequential!

4. He was a dynamo in bed…

DON’T! Please don’t! It’s good to be honest, but this is brutal and an emotional torment. It could be that you have had better intimate experiences in your past, but that doesn’t mean your current partner needs to know about it. Just reverse the situation and imagine if your partner does that to you–how would you feel? It is best to keep somethings to yourself.

5. I have Rs XYZ in my account!

What you do with your money is personal. You don’t need to inform or update your partner about very tiny expense you make. Things are different when you’re married because you have a family and certain responsibilities. But even then you should know where to draw the line, what to share, and what not share. Nor are you obliged to seek permission, neither should your partner be asking you where you spend your money.

6. My mum doesn’t like you…

It could be that your family and close friends might not like your partner for a certain reason. But you don’t need to tell your partner that. What matters is whether you like him or not. If you’re okay and happy with what according to them is problematic, then just keep it to yourself. If the same reasons are bothering you too, then have a chat with him and try to solve the solve the problem for a better relationship.
