If it wasn’t for our moms, we wouldn’t know what it means to be truly patient. Mind you, it is not her patience that taught us endurance but her constant complaints, demands, and expectations that gave us the strength to deal with the random flying statements we are subjected to. So yeah, you could say that in a way she did teach us to be adjusting. Here are a few things that we hear from our mothers constantly and responses we wish we could give to her:

1. True independence means being able to handle your kitchen

If you think this is the ultimate form of independence, then wait till I tell you what I feel about financial independence.

2. If you can’t manage cleaning your room and work, how will you adjust after marriage?

Just like you do. You have house help to do do the beds and fold clothes, I’ll follow suit.

3. Badi hogayi hai, thoda tayyar hoke bahar jaya kar

Mom, I wish a suitable boy was roaming on the streets or in malls looking for a life partner. But sadly no, not in my century.

4. Jab tumhare bacche honge tab pata chalega

I swear mom, if just saying no to eating dinner meant so much to me, my kids would have bigger problems. Imagine my kids being blackmailed for not eating peas. I feel you, buddy, mommy hates peas too.

5. Bahar se order karna tha toh ghar pe khaana kyun banvaya

One, YOU got the food made. Two, YOU were anyway going to pack it for everyone’s tiffin tomorrow. So do not complain when you already have a solution.

6. Where are you? When are you coming home?

I am safe. I am not meeting strangers at their homes or putting myself in possibly dangerous situations, so please calm down!

7. Tod de, tere baap ke paas toh bohot paisa hai

The vase just wobbled for half a second, my intention was just to put it down at the table. Also, the glass that broke last night was not my fault, it slipped out of my hands. Don’t be mad at me!

8. Apna ghar hoga toh jo mann main aaye karna

You wish well upon your own child, mother, I am touched. Going by the rate of income increment, I cannot even afford to put fuel in your car that I drive.

9. I have sent you this video watch it, it is very knowledgable!

In a time of WhatsApp forwards, mother, you have found a gem of a video where they tell me how to peal a pomegranate. To be precise, the 10-minute long D-I-Y video barely had 30 seconds of peeling instructions which I already knew!

10. Saara din phone/computer, do you even have time for family?

Dear mom, let us try and correct the wrong in the world by starting from within. Because you know you use the phone more often than I do!

11. Don’t roam around with your headphones on, you’ll go deaf

I wonder what are the chances because I’m willing to take them all!

12. Room matt lock karo!

Clearly, everybody skipped the conversation where families talk about respecting each other’s privacy. You just want access to my room 24×7, do not complain if I don’t get married ever!

13. Itni chik chik nahi karni chahiye

Another classic–do not complain or fight too much. The phrase thoda adjust karlo is a lifestyle that we must adapt to! Life is hard with it, life is hard without it.

14. AC kyun on kar rakha hai, bill kaun dega

Aap mere room se AC hatwa hi do!

15. Yeh toh main ghar pe bana sakti hoon

If you can make this barbeque sauce glazed pork rib with a side of mashed spicy potatoes and bitter gourd and seasoned roasted asparagus then why do you only make dal-roti-tinda at home?

Has your mom ever said these things to you? If yes, how do you respond? Let us know in the comments below!
