Do you often wake up in the morning full of dread? It could be the fact that you’re heading to a job that you don’t like, or are not looking forward to the daily commute that takes a toll on you. That dread continues throughout the day, creating an endless cycle where you just end up dissatisfied. If you want to reclaim your mornings and start the day on a positive note, here’s a handy list of hacks to get you started.

Practice meditation

Practice-meditation

Before you reach out to scroll Instagram and check your WhatsApp notifications, close your eyes and meditate. You may chant or say affirmations to a higher power or you can choose to focus on a particular mantra.

Be grateful

“Nothing beats gratitude as an attitude for happiness,” says Mumbai-based Happiness Coach and Healer, Janki Ravani. “And while you can give gratitude for being alive, well and abundant… One great and much forgotten thing to give gratitude for is *just for being you*. Because when you are grateful and in allowance for who you are… Everything else falls into place!”

Incorporate some physical exercise

It doesn’t have to involve a whole routine. You can try just easy yoga poses like 10 Surya Namaskars or a quick HIIT workout to get your body moving.

Get grooving!

Get-grooving!

This is fairly simple. Get that external speaker out and blast some upbeat music while you do your morning tasks–nothing beats flipping pancakes while grooving to Will Smith! There are plenty of playlists on Spotify or Apple Music that have happiness playlists to get you in the mood.

Dedicate one minute to doing a task

A hack propagated by The Happiness Project by author Gretchen Rubin is that one should dedicate one minute to doing a task–from folding clothes to pushing the dishes away. Set a timer on your phone, and dedicate one minute to getting your worst task over and done with. Trust us, you will be happy.

Incorporate some self care

Light that scented candle, put on a sheet mask or slather on that body lotion while massaging your body. Taking care of yourself is extremely important.

Learn something new

Instead of whiling your time on social media, use you commute to learn something new. You could listen to podcasts where you can subscribe to different channels based on your interests or you can opt for a language learning app like Duolingo. This could come in handy when you head for your next holiday!
