At Times Taking A Step Back Is Your Best Bet To Save Your Relationship

Relationships are very delicate and tricky. Correction: they are very tricky! A relationship gets too much to handle when only one of the partners is taking all the efforts to keep that spark alive. If you find yourself in a similar situation, then it’s probably time to figure out if you are investing too much of yourself in the relationship. Especially if you’ve lost sight of your life’s purpose and the relationship is taking a toll on your self-worth. Remember what Connor Mead said in Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past? “Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn’t happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less…” Having said that, it’s not one person’s job to care. Both partners need to invest their emotions and time equally to maintain a healthy relationship.

Here are a few ways that will help you find yourself again:

1. Take some time off for yourself

It’s good to invest time in your relationship and give it all you have. But at times you need to prioritise yourself too. You deserve it! Often in the process of valuing your relationship and partner, you forget to value yourself. Honestly, that’s the worst thing you can do to yourself. If you don’t realise your worth, no one else will.

2. Take a step back

You have been putting in efforts to fix everything, which is commendable. But, at times you need to take a step back and let the other person take charge of the relationship. Why do we say this? Because exhaustion does set in after a point when your partner has not been doing his part, and you’re constantly making up for it. Give your partner a chance to prove that this relationship matters to him as much as it does to you.

3. Go out with your friends

When you are too involved in your relationship, you often tend to ignore your friends. This is natural–because you try really hard to be with the person you love. In the process, you end up cancelling plans with your friends and prioritize your partner instead. DON’T! If you keep doing this, the road will only lead you to regrets. Go out with your friends and family and do things that make you happy.
