‘Settling down’ is a horrible phrase. None of us ever want to settle down because we often wonder what happens when the magic disappears. Even in a relationship, the initial high keeps the intensity going but the reality hits when the honeymoon period is over. Enter, the yawn-inducing phase of a long-term relationship. Everything seems monotonous and mundane because holding hands, going on frequent candle light dinners, and long hours on phones simply go out of the window. We often complain that ‘the spark is missing’ but in real life, not everyday can be full of romance and you can’t baby talk with your partner. With time, things settle and it’s for the good. So next time, before you freak out thinking that your relationship has turned so boring, realise that a little boredom is actually okay for your relationship.

Your relationship is stronger than ever

Jonathan Bennett, the famous relationship expert, once said, “Feeling bored in a relationship is normal. No relationship, whether romantic or otherwise, is going to be exciting and stimulating all of the time. Being able to accept and love your partner in the midst of more boring moments shows maturity and strength.”

The fact that you can still put up with each other despite being bored on some occasions proves that you have built a strong bond and no amount of boredom can put a full stop to your relationship.

You are off the pressure of constant stimulation

If you can survive both the exciting and boring moments together and still love and accept each other, trust us there aren’t better relationship than yours. The pressure of constant stimulation to keep the relationship going can be exhausting and can put us under severe pressure. It is pressure, especially if you have to constantly keep thinking of ways to please your partner on a daily basis. If you don’t need to do it anymore, consider it to be a big relief.

That sense of security and safety

Not just that, boredom is also a sign of safety and security. Mostly in life, we lose our minds trying to find a safe haven. We all want to come back to something real and a stable and secure relationship brings along that comfort. It may lack the madness but a sense of security is what we all crave for. It also defines the consistency of your relationship which remains unmoved come what may. Even the bad days don’t have any massive effect on it.

Doing nothing is also a thing

It’s fine to just laze around on some days and do nothing exciting because doing nothing is also a thing. At times, it’s good to just stay home and not go out partying all night. Staying home can be a lot more comforting and your social activities don’t dictate or define your relationship anymore. You still feel connected despite not talking to each other – that kind of a relationship is probably the best kind ever.
