They say that motherhood is like having your heart outside your body. You change as a person, becoming more responsible, more aware and alert and of course, softer and more understanding… well, for most of us. With pregnancy comes the joy of being a new mom, experiencing new emotions that you didn’t know you were capable of and so much more. However, let’s face it, what also comes post pregnancy, is some (or a lot) unwanted weight and stress that makes you question your whole existence. And what we’re saying today – is if you are able to get rid of at least one of the negatives, and make your whole new-mom experience better, why not?

Focusing on one of the major issues that most new mothers face, today we’d like to help you beat any anxiety caused by post-pregnancy weight gain. Fitness and health expert, Yashovardhan Singh, took time out, to share with us some highly effective tips that will aid you on your journey to getting back your old bod.

Here’s what he had to say…

According to Yashovardhan’s experience, women who are battling the bulge post pregnancy, face the challenge of shedding between 8-25 kgs. The most frequently asked question by them during this period – How soon will I see results? Well, Yashovardhan says that the process of weight loss does take time and requires you to be patient… however, if you bring your A game, as far as consistency is concerned, you’re bound to see quicker results. 8 years into the business, Yash is inclined towards applying a scientific approach. The fitness coach shared 5 useful tips for women whose aim is to reduce weight after giving birth…

1. Count Your Calories

You don’t have to cut many calories from your daily intake, but you need to keep a close eye on what you’re eating. To lose weight, Yash suggests you get a sufficient amount of protein, fats and carbohydrates in. These are macronutrients which are essential for your day to day life. Also, he stresses on the fact that eating a burger doesn’t exactly make you fat, it’s the excessive calorie intake that makes you put on weight. The calories – that’s where your focus needs to be.

2. Food Selection

For women who want to lose weight post pregnancy, consuming mostly nutrient-dense foods is a good idea! Eg. Rice, fruits, veggies, meats, eggs, dairy, etc. Ensure that your fiber intake is moderate, so that you don’t suffer with digestion issues.

3. Workout At Home

It’s not rocket science. If your goal is to lose weight, exercising is essential. However, as you are a mom now, it could get a little difficult for you to go to a gym. However, in this case, Yash recommends working out at home. All you need are some weights and resistance heavy bands to get started with. If you have a baby sitter at home and it’s not a huge task for you to go to a gym, he claims that there’s nothing better than taking out at least an hour’s time to achieving your goal.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Now telling a new mom to get enough sleep is like expecting the impossible. She sure wants to, but can she? However, it’s crucial to understand that not getting sufficient rest can affect your mood in a huge way, adding to your woes. It will cause unwanted stress, which in turn, might act as a catalyst for you to gain some more pounds. If you’ve managed to find time to work out, sleeping well becomes even more essential. Your body needs time to recover, repair and build back its energy – give it that!

5. Practice Yoga And Stay Hydrated

When it comes to yoga, there are several misconceptions. Does it help reduce weight? Is it meant for people who aren’t exactly ‘bendy’? Well, the truth is yoga is a workout for both your mind and body, and while it may not give you the body that you’re craving, it is sure to lower your stress levels, improve your breathing and concentration and relax your mind. Yoga also helps in increasing your levels of flexibility and opens up your joints – both of which aid weight loss in the long run. The last and probably most important tip that Yash shared with us, is to stay hydrated. Make sure you finish at least 3 liters of water every single day! This helps to flush out toxins, improving your skin, metabolism and much more.
