Some things are better the old-fashioned way. Romance is one of them. We’re not saying that modern-age romance is bland and fake, but we get so busy with our hectic lifestyles that we tend to miss out on spending quality time with our partner. We literally live on our phones, all the time. It can’t be helped, sure, but we are so engrossed in our digital selves that we often ignore the person sitting next to us. Which is why, we feel that romance in the olden days was special –it paid attention to emotions rather than emojis.

We can’t go back to an era before modern technology, but there’s no harm doing a few things in an old-fashioned way to reignite the lost spark. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Writing letters

Nothing’s more romantic than writing letters to your partner. No matter how old-school it may sound, but letters let you express your feelings in so many better ways than you can imagine. Just this one time, try writing a letter to your partner, instead of Whatsapp-ing him. Your partner will be pleasantly surprised! If a letter seems like too much of an effort for you, try leaving cute notes on the coffee table or in the study room.

2. Going on “real” dates

Of course, we don’t mean to say that the dates you go on with your partner are fake. Rather, the feelings and emotions back in the day, when there was no technology to keep your SO updated on your every move, were more spontaneous. Those long hours of waiting and the urge to meet had a lot more romantic essence. Also, going for romantic walks along the seaside is a lot more romantic than dressing up and dining at a five-star. Isn’t it?

3. Reading stories or poems to your partner

How romantic was the scene in Badhaai Ho, where Mr. Kaushik reads a poem to his wife Priyambada? Even today we share romantic videos and quotes on Instagram and YouTube. However, reading a passage or a page from the book to your partner before going to bed is a thing only book lovers can relate to.

4. Pen friends

Romance with pen pals… well, It’s an old concept–but we’re sure there will be people who still believe in it. Back in the day, a romance through exchange of letters without knowing the identity of the person was a rage. Now you can stalk everybody and it’s just creepy. But imagine sending love across overseas only through words–how romantic is that?

5. Listening to classics

Another lost romantic thing is listening to classic songs together while sipping over your evening cup of tea. Try out an evening dipped in romance with Kishore Kumar playing in the background, instead of watching Narcos on Netflix. Trust us, it’s worth the effort!
