Finally, you’re taking the next big step in your relationship. It is time to meet his parents! Excited or nervous? You must be on a roller-coaster ride of emotions right now! We get it. It’s normal. All you need to do is take a deep breath, calm your nerves, and just let it flow. While meeting his parents may seem a little nerve-racking to you, but the key is to just be real. Here’s how to make a lasting impression when meeting his parents for the first time. You can thank us later!

1. Do your research well

Even before you meet his parents, you should know them well. Now, this is where your partner has a major role to play. By knowing how they are and what they prefer, we don’t mean you should act according to their preferences and mould yourself to suit their expectations. Rather, it’s always good to have an idea of what it’s going to be like. So that you don’t encounter any shocks.

2. Keep it real

Don’t fake it. Be the person you are. Faking it for the moment will only add on to your problems in future. Have a light and honest conversation when you meet them. Even if you end up saying something wrong, don’t panic. Just switch gears. Change the topic, but smartly. Also, feel free to ask questions.

3. Don’t be submissive

Nobody is born perfect. You are there for your partner, we agree. But don’t neglect your own presence. Don’t just nod to whatever they say or ask you to do. Don’t let anyone change you or your identity. Tell them subtly what you have a problem with, and don’t be submissive. This could be your entire life here, not just a temporary fix. Gentle reminder ladies: shaadi ke baad, there’s no breakup!

4. Don’t over-expect

Meeting

Maa, maa hi hoti hai! Do not expect your potential mother-in-law to be just like your mom at the very first meeting. So go slow and don’t over expect. Let things take their own course.

5. Don’t stay for too long

Let your first meeting be short and sweet. So, it’s best to meet over tea or coffee. The lesser time you get, the lesser mistakes you make. If you wish to meet them and understand them better, meet them a couple of times more and ease into the bond. Your first meeting should be relaxed. So, let go of your jitters.
