Women like to share things with each other. We like to talk about everything that we go through, because either we like to gossip, or we want to process what’s happening. Sharing is encouraged by society, too, but only if you’re a woman. However, some of us tend to over-share! While as a teenager it is cute and thrilling to call your BFF every single time you make eye contact with a cute stranger, as an adult woman, it’s going a little… overboard. You risk the tag of “over-sharer”, and yes, there is such a thing! One of the most wonderful things about being human is that we all have a private world within us – that ‘secret garden’ that Bruce Springsteen lamented over. So, next time you have the urge to pick up the phone and call a friend, consider that maybe these 10 things are best kept to yourself!
1. That minor scuffle you had with your boyfriend
Cut the poor guy some slack, and don’t put him at risk of unsolicited judgements from your friends!
2. About that one time your boyfriend flirted with another girl
He is allowed to flirt, as long as you’re the one he’s sharing his world with!
3. Every single time you feel a little low
We all need to learn to contain ourselves beyond a point.
4. That one arbitrary statement made by the guy you’re crushing on that hinted that he might be interested in you!
Unless you have more incidents backing up the claim that he may be interested in you, there is nothing to process or get excited about here!
5. Every time somebody says something discouraging or hurtful
Forget, let go, and move on with your life!
6. That mind-blowing move your partner tried in bed the other night
This is your private garden that the two of you water. Leave it at that!
7. That one time he didn’t make you orgasm
Not everybody can perform at 100% all the time!
8. The kind of porn you enjoy watching
Unless this comes up as a part of a bigger conversation about female desire, you’re better off keeping this information to yourself. Your personal preference is not fodder for dinner table gossip.
9. When you have period cramps, if you have them every single time
You don’t have to make a spectacle out of your menstrual cycle if it is painful and uncomfortable for you every time. If there’s anybody you should be telling this to, it is your gynaecologist.
10. That yeast infection you caught from not changing your underwear after a workout
Just change your underwear next time, okay?
