The average insomniac has tried numerous remedies to help themselves sleep. From chamomile tea, to earplugs and eye masks, we have all been there. However, sometimes, the most obvious answers lie right in front of us, in that smartphone we are glued to in the middle of the night when we can’t sleep. That very phone is often the reason we can’t sleep, and often the thing that will help us, too! So, here are five things you can find on that phone you are obsessed with, to help you snooze in peace.
Short and silent make-up tutorials
There are a few billion speedy make-up tutorials on Instagram, which are so calming and beautiful, they will make you sleepy.
The soft stroke of brushes, and the gentle movement of beauty blenders, to create a smooth canvas and transform a face, are a beautiful tool to unwind with! More importantly, we are only able to fall asleep when we aren’t stressing ourselves out by trying to sleep.
So give into the black hole that are these make-up videos, and enjoy them at peace till your eyes close!
Relaxing videos of food being garnished
Videos of food being prepared can make one hungry, and aren’t necessarily relaxing to watch.
But after careful observation, we have realised that videos of cheese being sprinkled, chocolate being melted, or desserts being topped with a snowfall-like shower of sugar is truly relaxing, especially when icing and cake decorations are involved!
Boring history essays to read before bed
Take a cue from your exam days as a child and ask yourself: why did reading about what happened in 1890 make you so sleepy? Why did your eyes close like someone was pulling them shut during history class? Open a Wikipedia page about a part of history you have no interest in, and enjoy the sleep that comes with it.
Rainy and soft white noise to calm the mind
We have previously spoken about how the right calming sounds and natural ambient white noise can make a huge difference when it comes to calming the mind and helping one sleep.
All of this is available online, so make the most of it!
Go traditional with a lullaby
If nothing works, try revisiting your very first days on the planet, and listen to a lullaby or two. They are very calming, soft, and don’t contain disturbance-causing changes in pitch that normal music has, making them perfect for when you want to sleep.
YouTube has hours and hours of lullabies for babies. But trust us, they work just as well on grown-ups!
