Health and wellness has become the new fashionable thing in the recent years. Yoga, healthy eating, and moderate drinking have become the new ‘cool.’ Progressively, wellness is becoming a lifestyle rather than something we spend an hour or two on every day. What this means is that we are now going beyond the time we spend exercising, and embracing a holistic way of living. And, in this spirit, there are some wellness trends which have been touted to be big in 2017. Here are some of these trends that are definitely worth a try:
1. Customised Nutrition
Diets have been a matter of concern as long as fitness has been a matter of concern. We have seen many “fad” diets come and go – California diet, paleo, eggetarian, so on and so forth. But, now it’s time to do away with set menus and focus on personalising what we eat.
2. Sobriety
Drinking till you pass out or throw up was never cool, but recently, with Dry January and alcohol-free raves, even socialising over a few drinks has fast become passé. The new thing is to wind down over green tea, smoothies, and cold-pressed juices.
3. Minimalism and Sustainability
Whether it is fashion, interiors, consumerism, or diet, less is more. Minimalist and sustainable is the new mantra when you are choosing fabric for your upholstery, or even that dress for date night. It’s classy, subtle, and definitely a statement worth your time.
4. Communal Gatherings
Everything is a little better when done with a support system, and wellness is no exception. Having a community of like-minded people who support your journey of healthy living and spirituality does not only help you stay on track, but can also expose you to different opinions, and ways of being.
5. Inflammation-Fighting Foods
Inflammation is at the root of many diseases including asthma and cancer. Many experts have stated that our diet can both cause illness and help us prevent and even treat illness. This has been the driving force behind bringing healthy eating back into fashion, and now that is going one step forward with inflammation-fighting foods filling up our kitchen counters.
6. Wellness Tourism
Heading to exotic locations, away from the hustle bustle of our lives, disconnected from everything so you can connect only with yourself, while you soak in the sun and sand, or the magnanimity of mountains, is the new thing. Do we even need to explain why?
7. Staying In
Staying in is the new going out. We are done with partying it up till the wee hours of the morning. We’d rather nest in our homes, cosy and warm, having a good time, but not having to pay a heavy price for it in the form of hangovers and exhaustion.
8. Meditation
Meditation has been big for some time. But, if you haven’t given it a fair try yet, it’s time you do already. We all live stressful lives, and even a few minutes of meditation can help you counteract the harmful effects of being busy.
